Eleventh Annual
Servathon on May 18, 2002

The OCA-DC Chapter and Asian Pacific American
Service Corps of the OCA-NOVA Chapter will
participate in Greater DC Cares Eleventh Annual
Servathon on May 18, 2002. Servathon 2002 is
the single largest volunteer service and pledge-
raising event in the greater Washington D.C.
area. Thousands of volunteers from area
businesses, public service groups, local
government agencies and other groups
participate in service projects to benefit area
community organizations. Servathon projects
include renewing and landscaping low-income
housing complexes, beautifying area parks,
painting and refurbishing recreation centers,
and much more! Since it is a fundraiser,
Greater DC Cares requires a minimum pledge of
$20.00 per volunteer. Volunteers are also
encouraged to collect additional pledges for
the event. Donations will support Greater DC
Cares’ year-round programs and events, which
account for over 100,000 hours of volunteer
service to over 100 community organizations
each year.
FREE T-shirts will be handed out the day of the
event. There is also an optional Post Event
Party at Lulu’s from 1:00 – 4:00 PM (FREE food,
beer, soda, music, etc.).

If you are interested in participating, contact
Jeff Pwu (Jeffrey.Pwu@USPTO.GOV), Marylou
Lacuesta at mlacuesta@hotmail.com or (202) 488-
1826, or Jovanna Bello, at jbello@mccandlaw.com
or (703) 273-2288 for a registration form.
Since projects are selected according to the
number of team members participating, it is
important that Jeff Pwu or Jovanna Bello
receive your registration form on or before May
6, 2002, Monday, by close of business day.
Jeff or Jovanna then will register OCA-DC and
APA Service Corps as a team with Greater DC
Cares, and reserve a project according to the
team’s size on May 6, 2002, after close of
business day. After registration date, Greater
DC Cares generally will not accept any
additional team members.
The minimum age for participation is 14 years
old. Participants between 14 and 17 years old
must have a parent or guardian sign a parental
consent form.
If you are unable to volunteer on the 18th, but
would like to make a tax-deductible pledge for
one of OCA-DC’s or APA Service Corps’ team
members, please contact the Jeff or Jovanna for
details.

APA Service Corps is a program sponsored by the
Organization of Chinese Americans-Northern
Virginia Chapter. Its primary goals are to:
provide at least one community service
opportunity each and every month for
volunteers, 2) promote the involvement of Asian
Pacific Americans in community service, and 3)
enhance the perception of our community in
mainstream America. APA Service Corps
volunteers have been giving back to the
community for over five years. This will be
APA Service Corps 66th consecutive month of
service. Please join us.
