APA Service Corps of OCA-NOVA and OCA-DC Community Outreach will
participate in Greater DC Cares Annual Servathon on May 31, 2003.
Servathon projects include renewing and landscaping low-income housing
complexes, beautifying area parks, painting and refurbishing recreation
centers, and much more! Don’t miss out on the fun! Serve the
community, and party at Lulu’s after the event – FREE
FOOD, DRINKS AND ENTERTAINMENT!
Since it is also a fundraiser, there is a minimum pledge of $20.00
per volunteer. These pledges ensure that your one day of service
is transformed into a year’s worth of programming at Greater
DC Cares. Ask friends or family to sponsor you, and double, triple
or quadruple the impact of your Servathon effort.
Our goal is to recruit at least 25 volunteers!!! If you are interested
in participating, please register by MAY 12, c.o.b. This year, you
may register online by going to http://www.dc-cares.org/volunteers/special_days_of_service/servathon/Registration.aspx.
Make sure that the Team Type says “Volunteer Initiated”;
Team Name says “APA Service Corps & OCA-DC”; and
Team Captain says “Jovanna Bello.” On the day of the
event, don’t forget to bring your pledges in a sealed envelope
and submit them to the designated registrar that morning.
The minimum age for participation is 14 years old. Participants
between 14 and 17 years old must have a parent or guardian sign
a parental consent form.
APA Service Corps is a program sponsored by the Organization of
Chinese Americans-Northern Virginia Chapter. Its primary goals are
to: 1) provide at least one community service opportunity each and
every month for volunteers; 2) promote the involvement of Asian
Pacific Americans in community service; and 3) enhance the perception
of our community in mainstream America. APA Service Corps volunteers
have been giving back to the community for over six years. This
will be APA Service Corps’ 78th consecutive month of service.
The month of May marks the one-year anniversary of joint projects
between APA Service Corps and OCA-DC Community Outreach. OCA-DC
shares similar goals of serving the community.
Please join us.
